Personalized, honestly

Built around your skin, not an average

A quick face scan or quiz sets your Fitzpatrick type, and every number in the app reshapes around it — session length, flip time, SPF, burn limit, even how fast you tan.

  • Fair skin gets shorter sessions and a stronger SPF call — automatically.
  • Redness or freckles in your scan? Every recommendation goes a notch more careful.
  • An honest ceiling: if your skin type can't reach deep bronze, Sundial says so instead of letting you burn chasing it.

Three steps

From pale to glowing, without the guesswork

Setup takes about a minute. Then the app does the math forever.

  1. Scan or answer a quick quiz

A selfie scan estimates your skin type and current tone, or take the 30-second Fitzpatrick quiz. Pick your goal — Sundial clamps it to what your skin can honestly reach.

  2. Get your plan

Sessions per week, minutes per side, and the SPF that still lets you tan. The plan updates live as UV and your progress change.

  3. Tan with a timer that has your back

Start a session and the lock screen carries it: a flip alert for an even tan and a hard stop before your burn limit, even with your phone face-down in the grass.

Progress you can see

Watch the glow build, week by week

Your tone moves along the bronze ramp as real exposure adds up — no fake progress bars. Add selfies to build a timeline of the journey, and keep the streak alive.

  • Tone tracking calibrated to your skin type's real tanning response.
  • A selfie timeline that shows the change your mirror is too gradual to.
  • Streaks, sun hours, and achievements that reward consistency — the thing that actually builds a tan.

Only in Sundial

Tanning is better together

Pair with your partner and the sun becomes a shared thing: see when they're tanning, join their session with one tap, and build a streak of days in the sun together.

  • Live presence — a gentle card flips on when your partner starts a session.
  • Nudges: one tap to say “catch the sun”, delivered as a real notification.
  • Sun dates — plan a session together and you both get a reminder.
  • A shared streak that only counts days you both showed up.

What SPF should I use today?

UV peaks at 7 around 1p today. You're type II with some redness, so SPF 30 on your face and shoulders — you'll still tan, just without the setback. 10–15 minute sides, and your best window is 11a–1p.

How close am I to golden?

You're sun-kissed, about 50% of the way. At your pace — 4 sessions a week — golden is roughly 3 weeks out. Keep the streak.

AI coach

A coach who actually knows your skin

Not a generic chatbot — the coach reads your skin type, your scan, your session history, and today's UV before it answers. Ask it anything from SPF picks to why your shoulders burn first.

  • Grounded in your real data, so the advice is about you.
  • Honest by instruction — it will tell you to skip a session when UV is junk.
  • Free tier includes daily messages; Plus opens it up.

Questions

Asked often, answered honestly

Anything else — help@heysundial.com reaches the person who builds the app.

Is tanning with an app actually safer?

Safer than guessing, yes. Sundial computes your time-to-burn from your Fitzpatrick skin type, live UV, and your SPF, then stops you before it — the most common way people burn is simply staying out too long. It's guidance built on published heuristics, not a medical device: know your skin, and talk to a doctor if you're unsure about sun exposure.

What makes it “honest”?

It tells you the truth even when it's unprofitable. UV 0 at night shows as 0. If your skin type can't reach deep bronze, the goal picker says so. The free tier is genuinely useful instead of a nagging trial, and there's a pay-once option because not everything needs to be a subscription.

Do I need to pay to use it?

No. Live UV, the best-window finder, personalized timers, sessions, streaks, vitamin D, tan spots, and friends are all free, forever. Plus ($9.99/yr) or Lifetime ($19.99 once) add the AI coach, the full selfie timeline with tone grading, couples mode, and deep analytics.

How does couples mode work?

One of you generates a pairing code, the other enters it. From then on you share a streak, see when the other is tanning, can join their session with a tap, send catch-the-sun nudges, and plan sun dates with reminders for both of you.

What happens to my data?

It powers your tan math and nothing else. No ads, no trackers, no selling data. Selfies live in a private bucket only your account can read, and there's a real delete-account button that erases everything instantly.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet — Sundial is iPhone-first so things like the lock screen Live Activity and widgets could be done properly. Android is on the list if enough people ask: help@heysundial.com.
